The context
A new-recruit project through the Global Shapers Community Warri Hub introduced secondary-school students to practical digital skills and supported continued virtual learning.
How do you turn initial interest into a learning experience people can stay with?
The work
I helped coordinate outreach and delivery for a seven-person team. We visited seven schools and used WhatsApp, Google Meet and shared learning resources to connect the programme.
I facilitated Content Writing and Video Creation. Content Writing included three sessions. Video Creation used a Drive tutorial collection, so the learning materials were not all live sessions.
What the report records
There were 111 expressions of interest, 67 onboarded participants and approximately 20 completions. These are different stages of participation. Interest was not the same as training completed.
Examination clashes and declining participation affected delivery. The programme was shortened and planned technology sessions were dropped.
What stayed with me
Getting people to begin and helping them continue are different parts of the work. Timing, smaller learning modules and follow-up deserve as much attention as outreach.
The experience gave me a more useful way to look at participation: track the journey, understand where people leave, and design around what they need to keep going.
